*All You Magazine: STILL On RollBack at Walmart!*

I keep forgetting to write that on May 26, 2011 All You Magazines were still on Roll Back at Walmart.

So I bought two copies of the June issue at $1.88 each instead of $2.49 each.

Each issue has $91.60 of coupons in it.  So just like last month,   if it were not on sale, then my two magazines (before tax) would have cost $4.98 for $183.20  worth of coupons.

But since it was on sale, I paid only $3.76 (before tax) for $170.64 worth of coupons.

My subscription finally took, and I received my first issue (July's) in the mail.  I thought if it had a lot of good coupons in it, I would still go pick up an additional one at Walmart.  But I honestly have not used a single coupon from ANY of the All You Magazines yet, so I didn't bother buying a second July issue.

Walmart: 05/16/2011

Sadly, our kitchen has ants.  I did not know of any particularly good ant trap sales going on right now, and we obviously wanted to take care of the issue ASAP and not wait for a good sale.  So I searched for any brand of ant trap coupons that I could find and headed on over to Walmart to see which brand came out to be the cheapest.

My Husband and I searched the shelves and found one brand for $2.47, and we had a $2 off coupon.  JACKPOT!  So we grabbed them and went to the register.

I noticed that they rang up as $3.97, so I asked the cashier why it was so much higher than it was listed on the shelf as.  She told me because sales tax had been added to it to make it over $4.  I told her that is not what I meant.  I told her that the shelf had a whole box of them labeled at only $2.47, and they are ringing up now as $3.97.  She said she didn't know.

As a quick side note, I should point out that I am the talker in the relationship.  My husband hates confrontations even more than I do.  Also, he talks less than the average person...And I talk more than the average person.

So with a long line of angry customers forming behind us, I was ready to just accept the higher price, take the $2.00 off, and then get them for $1.97 plus tax.  But at this point even my husband was wondering if we grabbed the wrong item.  So I waited at the register, and he ran back to the aisle to see if he could grab the cheaper item.  He called my cell while he was there and said that he double-checked the price tag and the box of  traps that were sitting there, and that we definitely got the correct product and that they are definitely supposed to be $2.47.

Now the cashier was still waiting for someone to come over and help her.  I repeated to her what my husband just told me on the phone, but she said she couldn't overwrite the price without a manager.  So my husband gets back to the register, and tells her that he double-checked the price and that there is a whole box sitting there, not just the one we got.

Finally a CSM comes over and we tell him that it is labeled on the shelf as $2.47 but is ringing up as $3.97.  So he said he wanted to go see the shelf with the price label.  So he takes the product we were trying to ring up, and him and my husband walk back to the aisle.  And the CSM sees the box, the price tag, and decides that the whole box is in the wrong spot, and that they are the higher-priced Combat product, and a lower-priced Combat product should be sitting there.  Yet, there were NO other Combat products on the shelf.  Otherwise we would have gladly taken the lower-priced item he was referring to.  Also, there were NO other Combat price labels on the shelf showing a $3.97 price.

Furthermore, it was absolutely not our fault that the items were set out in the wrong spot.  We didn't move them!  And the CSM compared the barcode on the item to the barcode on the label, and said that the very last number was different.  Yet, there wasn't a different barcode label on that shelf for the supposedly higher-priced item that we were scanning.

In the end, because it was not our fault that the higher-priced item was in the lower-priced items' spot...And because there was no lower-priced item to get...And because we were completely innocent throughout the whole thing, and were never once trying to do anything wrong...Because of all of that, our attention to detail, and persistence paid off....And he allowed the cashier to overwrite the item from $3.97 to $2.74.

Again, had we had any idea we were grabbing the wrong item, I never would have tried to get a price adjustment.  Not a single thing that happened was our fault.  It is not like I just argue my way into getting good deals, I don't advocate lying to get discounts.  This was a legit argument, because it was not our fault at all.  The store was absolutely at fault.
I am just glad that they adjusted the price, because then with the coupon we got an amazing deal.

So here's how it ended up:

Retail Cost:

  • 1 6ct Box Combat Ant Traps: $3.97

Retail Subtotal: $3.97

My Cost:

  • 1 6ct Box Combat Ant Traps: $3.97 - $1.50Price Adjustment = $2.47 - $2.00 Coupon = $0.47

My Subtotal: $0.47

$3.97 - $0.47 = Savings of $3.50

I was excited when I thought we were just saving $2...But now I'm even more excited that we ended up saving $3.50!

Even with the $0.22 added Sales Tax...For a total of $0.69...That comes to less than $0.12 a trap!  :)

Walmart: 05/14/2011

We needed Plastic Wrap...So I gathered up a bunch of coupons to pay for the Plastic Wrap for us! :)

Retail Prices:

  • 2 Packages 3count Ivory Bar Soap: $0.97 each (Total: $1.94)
  • 4 Packages Dental Floss: $0.88 each (Total: $3.52)
  • 3 Tubes Aquafresh Toothpaste: $0.97 each (Total: $2.91)
  • 2 Packages 4count Wilkinson Sword Shaving Razors:  $0.97 each (Total: $1.94)
  • 2 Bottles K-Y Jelly: $2.62 each (Total: $5.24)
  • 4 Bottles of Franks RedHot Hot Sauce: $0.98 each (Total: $3.92)
  • 1 Box Great Value Plastic Wrap: $1.47
Retail SubTotal: $20.94

My Prices:

  • 2 Packages 3count Ivory Bar Soap: $1.94 - $1.00 Coupon = $0.94 - $1.00 Coupon = -$0.06
  • 4 Packages Dental Floss: $3.52 - $1.00 Coupon = $2.52 - $1.00 Coupon = $1.52 - $1.00 Coupon = $0.52 - $1.00 Coupon = -$0.48
  • 3 Tubes Aquafresh Toothpaste: $2.91 - $1.00 Coupon = $1.91 - $1.00 Coupon = $0.91 -  $1.00 Coupon = -$0.09
  • 2 Packages 4count Wilkinson Sword Shaving Razors:  $1.94 $1.00 Coupon = $0.94 -  $1.00 Coupon = -$0.06
  • 2 Bottles K-Y Jelly: $2.62 each $5.24 $3.00 Coupon = $2.24 - $3.00 Coupon = -$0.76
  • 4 Bottles of Franks RedHot Hot Sauce: $3.92 $1.00 Coupon = $2.92 - $1.00 Coupon = $1.92 - $1.00 Coupon = $0.92 - $1.00 Coupon = -$0.08
  • 1 Box Great Value Plastic Wrap: $1.47
My SubTotal: -$0.06

$20.94 - -0.06 = Savings of $21.00 (Or I saved $20.94 and made $0.06, however you want to look at it)

When I did my math in the store before my transaction, I thought that I would owe them exactly one cent so I left that as everything in my transaction.  Now that I re-did my math I see that instead of me owing them $0.01 like I thought, they actually still owed me $0.06.  If I realized that at the time, I might have thrown some other cheap item in to my transaction.  But I see that I didn't lose those 6cents, they came off of the sales tax that I owed.  So that worked out fine.

I should have paid $1.03 in sales tax, but the 6cents came off.  So I only paid $0.97 for all 18 items!

So I could have just walked into Walmart, paid the $1.47 plus whatever the sales tax would be, and bought just the Plastic Wrap.  But instead, I paid a total of $0.97 for the plastic wrap PLUS 17 other items. :)  So I am quite pleased with that.

All You Magazine: On RollBack at Walmart this month!

All You Magazine is on RollBack at Walmart this month!

Every single time I try to find this magazine at my local Walmart, I have never been able to find it.  I assume that they normally charge you the cover price of $2.49 an issue.

For the next few weeks, Walmart has this magazine on sale for only $1.88!  So that's a savings of $0.61 (before tax)!

Knowing that my subscription is not going to kick in for at least another month, I just ran to Walmart (on my lunch break!) to see if I could grab the May issue on sale.  To my surprise my store actually had the magazine!  I have been contemplating going to other Walmart locations to see if they have it.  But today I found at least 4 copies of the May issue at my store!  I was so excited that I decided to grab two of them.

I ran to a price scanner to make sure that they were in fact ringing up $1.88 an issue instead of $2.49.  If they were not on sale I was only going to buy one.  But they did ring up on sale so I decided to grab 2.
I have heard of plenty of couponers out there who have multiple subscriptions to this magazine to maximize the amount of items they can be saving on.  So I didn't think it was too strange for me to get two.

Let's just hope that the May issue is choked-full of awesome money-saving coupons that I will want (since I will have doubles).  Let's also hope that these coupons do not expire for a while...And that I haven't missed too many good sales already.  Hopefully I have plenty of time and sales left to use my two magazines worth (or at least some of them, assuming I won't actually use all) of coupons up!

The cover says that there is "$85.32 worth of coupons in this issue".

So if it were not on sale, then my two magazines (before tax) would have cost $4.98 for $170.64 worth of coupons.

But since it was on sale, I paid only $3.76 (before tax) for $170.64 worth of coupons.

$4.98 - $3.76 = Savings of $1.22

And to take it a step further, I actually had a Walmart gift-card that I have been forgetting to use for many months.  I finally remembered to use it today.  Thus making my $170.64 worth of coupons actually absolutely free! :)

Because of my gift-card, I was actually tempted to purchase more than two of the magazines...But I decided to wait until the June issue comes out.  If my subscription hasn't kicked in by then, then I will want to go to Walmart to buy the June issue, and I can use the rest of my gift-card on that if I haven't used it on anything else by then.  Or, I can always just spend the $1.88 for another book of coupons...Or $2.49 if it is not on sale anymore.  I am sure that the $2.49 pays for itself if you are really into couponing.

Either way, I am excited to look through the magazine and see what coupons it contains! (Twice)  :-)

Haha I couldn't wait to take a picture of my two copies!

WalMart: 04/30/2011

I had a less than impressive trip to WalMart yesterday.  I did use a bunch of coupons that saved me a little over $6.00.  But I only got one item for free.  So that is the only part I am going to blog about. :)

Retail Cost:

  • 1 Tube of Travel Size Aquafresh Toothpaste: $0.97

SubTotal: $0.97

My Cost:

  • 1 Tube of Travel Size Aquafresh Toothpaste: $0.97 - $1.00 Coupon = -$0.03

My SubTotal: $0.00

I had so many other things in my transaction, that I honestly don't even know if those 3cents came off of my total transaction or if they just 'disappeared'.  But all I really care about is that I got free toothpaste.  Haha  So for now I'm fine with whichever scenario happened.

$0.97 - $0.00 = Total Savings: $0.97
